This week we hosted our fifth #AskMeAnything event, where young entrepreneur, Will Bell, talked to us about his experience of founding and bootstrapping his company, Nearcut.
Bootstrapping: /'bu:tstrap/ verb 1. building a company from the ground up with nothing but personal savings and, with luck, the cash coming in from the first sales.
Unlike many entrepreneurs these days, Will has eschewed the world of venture capital, and instead has grown his business one customer at a time, leading to a sustainable and profitable business that employs 12 people across Berlin and the UK.
Will's entrepreneurial experience actually began when he was only 16 years old. Nearcut was run as an active business while Will was studying at university. Indeed, one experience where the entire site went offline the day before a finals exam gave him a sharp lesson in prioritisation (Nearcut won!).
Will was very open with the audience, sharing both his perceived "failures" (recoined as "lessons learned" at the behest of the crowd!), as well as successes.
The mixed crowd, which included occasional office-dog Orion, were very engaged, challenging Will on some of his business decisions and asking probing questions, as well as enjoying a beer or two.
We thank Will for giving us his time at Regis24, and look forward to following Nearcut's continued success.
